In 1095 AD, Pope Urban II called for a military expedition to aid the Byzantine Empire of Eastern Europe. The Catholic contingent of primarily Western European nobles recaptured much of Anatolia for Byzantium and went on to conquer the Holy Land, establishing the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
The war cry of these courageous Crusaders was Deus Vult, Latin for God Wills It!
The Five-fold Cross used here, known as the Jerusalem Cross, is a heraldic symbol consisting of a large cross surrounded by four smaller Greek crosses. This cross variant was used as the coat of arms for the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the design is traditionally attributed to Godfrey of Bouillon, the Crusader King himself.
Ever remain Hammer Bound and for the triumph of Christendom, DEUS VULT!
