Folk of similar character, background and values tend to congregate with one another. This feature of Human Nature and God's natural order is summed up in the old proverb:
Birds Of A Feather Flock Together.
The birds flanking our concept are examples of Visigothic eagles. The Visigoths were the western branch of the Germanic peoples referred collectively to as the Goths.
The tale of these Germanic tribesmen includes much interaction with the Roman Empire, contact with which perhaps influenced the adoption of the eagle insignia, which became a popular symbol amongst the Goths. With the Visigoths having adopted Catholicism, it would come to pass that a mighty Visigothic nobleman named Pelagius of Asturias would initiate the Christian Reconquista of Iberia in 718 AD.
